i was thinking about some ways to explore public space in Geneva and undestand how the borders between public and private a re negotiated. I had recently an idea, which would be to post an ad on the website for foreigners and newcomers in geneva and try to find people interested in going around in the town and taking pictures and video and sound recordings, texts, of moments and places where they feel/felt the appropriation of the city of where, on the contrary, they felt the most strangers…something like that…I haven’t a precise idea yet, but i am sure i’d be able to gather some people and could be an interesting way of exploring the city and gather some materials for the conversation in bj in october..

definitely worth it to try as an experiment! would you go around with them or ask them to do it on their own and document for you? if you need webspace to make the experiment public just give a shout! while i don’t know much about the relationship genevans take to urban space, i think it’s an important question to investigate further the different ways we can invest in public space, and then, if they were to try to communicate this investment via a 3rd medium like photo/sound/video, what kind of narratives and/or ‘translocal’ (to rip the word from Felix Stalder!) flights are taken?
