All journals are to be sold at 12 EUR each.

The driver/salesman should pre-record one message before beginning the route. The recording call should be simple and concise, in both Chinese and Italian, e.g., “穿杂志“, or “Journals for Sale”. This message can be set to replay on loop during the length of his route.

He/she should circulate around the exhibition grounds, and depending upon the exhibition location, may devise a route to/from the city centre to the exhibition, along a well-populated path where many pedestrians may be encountered. The loudspeaker should be playing at all times, alternating between the pre-recorded message and the direct voice of hawker, speaking by these instructions:

  • –  Describe in as much detail as possible the clothing of people you see on the street. (for example, A woman of medium height, wearing a red skirt, striped blouse and red leather sandals, carries a paper shopping bag and walks at a leisurely pace.)
  • –  Describe in as much detail as possible their actions. (for example, A man is sitting on the bench reading a newspaper; he takes a cigarette out of his jacket left pocket and lights it. He inhales deeply, turning his head to the right to exhale, then turns back to the newspaper. his leg is crossed left over right; now switching right over left; still reading the newspaper; now turning the page, etc.)
  • –  Do not talk to people directly; descriptions should be in third-person.
  • –  Alternate Chinese, Italian, and English, if possible.

If the hawker is asked about the contents of the journal, he/she can show the display copy and explain that it is a journal about art/urban practices in Beijing.

The first issue of Wear journal is now available. What began as a documentation of a series of community-oriented interventive projects organised during the 2008 Summer Olympic games in Beijing has since evolved into HomeShop’s own artistic practice in the form of a publication. This issue traces the Games from the perspective of Xiaojingchang hutong, an old residential lane in Beijing’s central Gulou area. Here, a mapping of the everyday life of a small neighbourhood finds itself in discourse with HomeShop’s organised gatherings, interactive events and small experiments in public space, as a way to bend our movements between the public and the private, between village and city and perhaps even more crucially, between person and person. Wear contains personal writings, photos, theoretical essays and drawings by participants and other invited contributors, including: Angie BAECKER, Beatrice FERRARI, OUYANG Xiao, Sean SMITH and Jocko WEYLAND. Xiaojingchang hutong portfolio by Nelly RODRIGUEZ. ISBN: 978-3-00-026619-5; IMPRINT: HomeShop; PAPERBACK: 168 pp., 18.5 cm x 25 cm, sewn binding, colour and b/w sections, paper varied (no cover). Made in the People’s Republic of China. Wang 大爷 says 你好!There’s something about 秋天慢慢爬进来,爬到我身上,makes things slow, but smiling… been wanting to post lots, catch up, but trying to get to it…  B, has life in Geneva speeded up again? Are you well?

Trying now to get a publication together for HomeShop, here is the pdf proposal for it in English; if you know anyone who can help me to find a publisher or could help contribute, please pass along… At this point, this is going to be another default wholly independent venture (sigh…), and HomeShop has about zero zero zero funding, so I would like to propose that anyone who participated, came by, or is interested in any of the things we are doing to

anything he/she can to putting out our first journal! It will only cost around 2,000 euros to put out a decently printed publication (150pp., black/white and colour, nice binding!), and of course anyone who contributes will receive a copy and any other goodies we can think of…
so if you’re interested to help, a kind of suggestion:
-a bowing down low low low supporter:  you donate 80 Euros and receive 20 journals
-a bowing down supporter:  you donate 50 Euros and receive 10
-a humble-nod supporter:  you donate 20 Euros and receive 3
this includes shipping costs to get to you (if all goes well, will be by december!).

We’re trying a PayPal donation system for this for now, but please contact if you have any questions, don’t want to sign up for a PayPal account or can contribute in any other way…

and please help us print HomeShop’s first series of journal publications! Thank you to all of those who have been with us so far, we hope to make HomeShop an ongoing project.
